Alcons Audio introduces new immersive surround speaker

Alcons CRS8_9090 upper-view

Alcons Audio has announced the CRS8, a two-way passive-filtered full range loudspeaker that is designed to meet all requirements of current and future immersive surround sound formats.

The CRS8/9090 system consists of the RBN401 pro-ribbon driver for HF and a vented eight-inch mid-bass for LF reproduction. The HF section has an 800W peak power input, enabling a unique 1:16 dynamic range with up to 90 per cent less distortion from 1kHz to beyond 20.000 Hz.

The system has a fully linear response due to the “compression-less” principle of the pro-ribbon transducer technology. It also has the same tonal balance at all SPL’s for an intuitive 1:1 performance.

The CRS8 features a patented 90-degree horizontal and patent-pending 90-degree vertical dispersion of the waveguide, offering a wide and consistent coverage up to frequencies of 20kHz -3dB.

Driven by the Sentinel amplified loudspeaker controller, the Signal Integrity Sensing pre-wiring ensures dynamic cable/connector compensation between the CRS8 and ALC, offering a 1:1, undistorted natural sound reproduction, regardless of cable length and amplifier impedance load.

Typical applications include (height layer) immersive surround sound systems for home cinemas, as well as performing arts theatres, screening rooms, post-production facilities and dubbing stages, and quality-conscious PLF cinemas.

The CRS8/9090 is available in two impedance options: 8 ohms for efficient parallel connection in 5.1/7.1 configurations, and 4 ohms for maximum amplifier efficiency in individually-amplified immersive surround systems. The system comes with a six year warranty.
