Hisense launches 80-in laser TV

hisense l5 laser tv unveiled at launched event in Bejing

Hisense has announced the follow up to the 100-in laser TV debuted last year – the L5 Laser TV – available at a third of the cost.

After the big unveiling of its 100-in laser TV in San Diego at CEDIA last year, Hisense has introduced a smaller version of the all-in-one short-throw projector/OTA tuner/speaker package.

Although striking to see, the price tag of the 100-in model – a cool $10,000 – became the key talking point regarding the TV. Taking this on board, the 80-in model has been given a more accessible price tag by Hisense and has just gone on sale in China for 20,000 yuan (that around US $3,140/€2,690).

Like its predecessor, the L5 Laser TV consists of two parts: the short-throw projector and the custom-made Danish DNP “anti-light” display surface. The manufacturer claims the 400-nit screen can be watched from 3 metres away and beyond and can be watched at any time of day. Some of the “smart” features packed in include screenshot sharing and specific modes for watching different content.

The Chinese manufacturer is yet to confirm further details – including whether the L5 can deliver 4K UHD resolution but this is expected, although widespread HDR support is not a certainty.

Hisense says the L5 will soon be available worldwide, with exact pricing yet to be announced.
