‘The Pearl’ smart speaker introduced by Cabasse

Voice control, 118dB and a host of streaming functionality is packed into the 32cm-tall ‘The Pearl’ from Cabasse, inspired by its La Sphère speaker.

The France-based manufacturer’s wireless option takes the same spherical form as its flagship speaker, but is much smaller at 12.5 inches (and doesn’t quite pack in the same performance as its six-figure sister).

The Pearl offers 3200W peak amplification, a 25cm bass driver and coaxial midrange and tweeter configuration. Google Assistant support is also packed into its compact form factor (thanks to an integrated microphone), with Alexa on its way too. Its mic also aids its automatic calibration system for room set up.

Like other StreamCONTROL models from Cabasse, the speaker is built for WiFi-powered multi-room action from the likes of DLNA, internet radio and streaming from Spotify, Qobuz, Napster, Deezer and Tidal, in addition to supporting Bluetooth and providing optical and analogue inputs. File support peaks at 24-bit/192kHz to boot.

Available in metallic black (with ‘pure chromium rings’) or pearl white (with silver ones), The Pearl from Cabasse’s price tag knocks two digits off the cost of owning La Sphère at €2,790/£2,599 and will be available from early November onwards. A little too pricey but after a little spherical somethin' somethin'? There’s always the new Phantom Reactor from Devialet.
