Furman Sound Begins Shipping its AR-20 II (11/10/2006)
Unique 20-Amp Regulator Protects Equipment
and Filters Power to Ensure Optimal Performance
Furman Sound, the world's leading provider
of AC power management solutions, today announced it has begun shipping
its AR-20 II. The new 20-amp regulator delivers a stable 120 volts
of AC power to protect equipment from damaging AC line voltage irregularities,
while filtering and purifying AC power to ensure the optimal performance
of connected equipment.
"We are pleased to announce that the newest
addition to Furman's power management solution line is now shipping,"
said Dave Keller, executive vice president of sales and marketing
for Furman. "Our new AR-20 II is unique in that it not only protects
electronics from damaging voltage irregularities, but also filters
out AC line noise using state-of-the-art technology so that equipment
performs at the highest level possible."
Furman's AR-20 II accepts input voltages
from 97 volts to 141 volts and transforms them to a constant 120
volts. Unlike voltage regulators that use motorized transformer-based
technology and switch taps at uncontrolled times - creating voltage
spikes and clicks that leak into the audio - the AR-20 II compares
the incoming line voltage to an extremely precise voltage reference
and switches taps electronically at the zero-crossing to avoid distorting
the AC waveform.
The regulator also is outfitted with Furman's
proprietary Series Multi-Stage Protection Plus (SMP+) technology,
which combines three filtering and protection circuits: Linear Filtering
Technologyú (LiFT) suppresses noise dramatically and consistently
across the entire dynamic range; Series Multi-Stage Protection (SMP)
clamps and dissipates damaging transient voltages at the highest
degree available without sacrificing itself; and Extreme Voltage
Shutdown (EVS) circuitry protects against prolonged overvoltages
by shutting off the incoming power until the overvoltage condition
is corrected.
Housed in a compact dual-space, rack-mount
chassis, the AR-20 II features 12 outlets on the rear panel and
two convenient outlets on the front panel. All 14 outlets are regulated,
spike-suppressed, and filtered against radio frequency and electromagnetic
interference.
The unit is exceptionally easy to use, with
a digital meter that indicates input voltage, an LED that indicates
the output voltage is within regulation, and only one control: an
on/off switch. It is protected by a limited three-year warranty
covering defects in materials and workmanship.
