AMX develops communicating thermostat with colour display weather forecasting (1/10/2007)

New thermostat provides a convenient, centralised way to manage heating and cooling, supports AMX's green initiative

AMX unveiled the world's first communicating thermostat featuring a colour display with weather and forecasting. AMX's new ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat (ENVVST-C) will provide a convenient way to manage heating and cooling in a home, business or any other environment, while also reducing overall energy usage. AMX is showcasing its ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat in AMX booth 501 at CEDIA Expo, being held in Denver 6 - 9 Sep.

The ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat features a 3.5" colour TFT (Thin Film Transistor) display for providing indoor and outdoor temperatures and humidity settings, along with current local weather conditions and forecast information, day/date/time, and much more. To complement a room's dˇcor, the thermostat's white finish can be painted to match any wall colour.

The ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat supports AMX's Green Initiative - a corporate-wide commitment to developing environmentally-friendly products. It is Energy Star and California Title 24 compliant and can be programmed with up to four temperature set points for each day of the week to further reduce energy usage.

It can be used as a stand alone climate control solution, or it can be integrated into an AMX Control System for convenient, centralised management of one or more thermostats. Using a single AMX Control System and Touch Panel, up to 255 ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostats can be monitored and adjusted for streamlined climate control throughout a home or business. For those needing to manage multiple properties, the thermostats can also be controlled remotely via AMX's Resource Management Suite (RMS), which includes popular applications like MeetingManager, ClassroomManager and HomeManager.

The ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat includes a three-year subscription to AMX's iWeather application, which will provide up-to-the-minute weather information, including forecast high/low temperature, wind chill/heat index, current wind direction/speed, outside humidity/dew point/barometric pressure, five-day forecast and more. The thermostat supports most popular HVAC systems, including:

* Single stage furnace and air conditioning (A/C) * Two stage furnace and A/C * Two stage heat and two stage cool roof top units * Boiler with A/C * Single stage heat pump * First stage radiant floor heat, second stage furnace, one stage cooling * Humidity control

Availability

The ViewStat Color Communicating Thermostat will be available in January 2008.
