News Intermatic Surge Arresters Guard Against Transient Voltage and Lightning Strikes (24/10/2007) CEDIA US Expo 2007 Transient voltage wears down equipment, causes malfunctions, and has a negative impact on productivity. Intermatic provides a solution for this problem by supplying a line of secondary surge arresters, with LEDs, that indicate the arrester's status. Intermatic, Inc. is the industry's premier source of surge suppression and surge arrester devices. Unchecked transient voltage is responsible for annual losses of $ 2.6 billion in the U.S. These devices are perfect for protection of industrial motors, pumps, variable frequency drives, irrigation systems and industrial control panels which are often unprotected from the effects of transient voltage and nearby lightning strikes. Two models are offered. The AG2401C-IND is offered for single-phase loads (120/240 VAC) and the AG6503C-IND is designed for the protection of three-phase equipment (208, 240, 480, 600 VAC). Both models feature 40 kA of surge current capacity line to ground and a 10-year warranty. Integral to each device is internal thermal protection which is a proprietary Intermatic design. This design ensures that if the MOV fails or sees too much surge current, and goes into thermal runaway, the device will fail open. If the lights are on (one for each phase) then the protection device is working properly. If the green LEDs extinguish then you know you have had an event that exceeded the capability of the unit. These devices are UL listed as secondary surge arresters (OWHX) and are designed to ANSI/IEEE C62.11 for Category C locations. Per NEC Section 280 these devices can be installed on the line side or the load side of your electrical service, and can be installed indoors or outdoors. The arrester housing is constructed of UV resistant polycarbonate and all electrical connections are sealed in a UL component recognized epoxy to exclude moisture, dirt and corrosion. These devices are rated Nema 4 for indoor or outdoor applications. A mounting bracket is available p/n AG1BRKT.
