NTI launches the Digirator DR2 digital audio signal generator (25/4/2008)

NTI launches the new Digirator DR2, a reference grade signal generator for digital audio. The DR2 provides all common digital audio test signals, stereo- and multi-channel-formats. The Digirator ideally complements the Digilyzer DL1 forming a compact and portable measurement set tailored for broadcast, studio and home cinema applications. The Digirator DR2 generates a variety of digital audio signals, such as sine, sweep, chirp or noise with adjustable levels and frequencies. The synthesized test signals are generated up to 24 bit resolution and all standard sampling frequencies up to 192 kHz, thus also supporting next generation digital audio.

Dolby and DTS Generator

For coping with multi-channel audio applications, the DR2 is further equipped with a comprehensive set of surround sound signals in the Dolby D, E, Pro-Logic and DTS formats. Further user test signals may be stored as WAV-files in the internal memory and are seamlessly looped. This enables the DR2 to generate any complex test pattern or act as a simple line identifier in a broadcast chain. Data exchange is simplified via the USB port.

The DR2 output automatically synchronizes to external video or audio clocks by connecting a reference signal to the multi-format sync input. Thus the generated signal at the individual output connectors AES3, S/PDIF, TOS-Link or ADAT is locked to the master clock. The battery-operated Digirator is optimized for systems verification and troubleshooting tasks. Ergonomic design of the housing and the rubber shock protection jacket make it ideal for field use.

DR2 measures Signal Latency

Innovative functionality enables the new Digirator to continuously monitor vital aspects such as channel transparency and system delays when dealing with digitally encoded signals. The DR2 generates a proprietary test sequence, compares it with the looped back signal, thus testing the channel path for signal transparency or measuring the introduced signal latency of the connected audio path in milliseconds or video frames.

Philipp Schwizer, CEO proudly reports: "We are happy that the Digirator DR2 is available now. Broadcasters and sound engineers may commission, monitor or troubleshoot digital audio systems faster and more accurately than ever".

The Digirator DR2 and the Digilyzer DL1 together form a portable test kit for fast and precise test applications in digital audio.
