Monitor Audio adds new 300 Series models to range at CEDIA UK Expo 2008 (3/6/2008)

Stand G5, CEDIA UK Expo 2008

New models extend the capabilities of Monitor Audio’s class-leading architectural speaker range

Stand G5 is the stage for the European launch of three additions to Monitor Audio’s celebrated 300 Series range of architectural speakers. Launched to great acclaim at CEDIA UK Expo 2007, the advanced 300 Series of aim-able in-ceiling LCR models has confirmed Monitor Audio’s reputation for high performance and quality. 2008 welcomes a new generation of 300 Series designs including in-wall, in-ceiling and in-ceiling effects speakers, which will further enhance the performance and system-building C380FX versatility of the range.

The new in-wall W380LCR 3-way speaker utilises Monitor Audio’s unique Inverted Dual Concentric (IDC) ‘eyeball’ mid-range/ HF driver module offering up to 18 degrees of pivot in all directions for these critical frequencies. New 8” bass drivers are incorporated to further extend the characteristically wide frequency response of the 300 Series. All driver cones are formed from the company’s proprietary Ceramic-Coated Aluminium Magnesium (C•CAM®) alloy for an extremely fast, accurate response, high efficiency and high power handling. The W380LCR’s bass driver benefits from Rigid Surface Technology (RST®), a pattern of radial ridges on the cone’s surface which further resists bending and improves fidelity. It employs high frequency level adjustment and boundary attenuation to compensate for corner placement and is easy to install using Monitor Audio’s innovative and secure Tri-Grip system. Aluminium grilles, paint-able surfaces and fire-retardant specifications are the additional elements that provide the finishing accent of quality.

The new 300 Series in-ceiling designs are the 8” C380-LCR and C380-FX. The C380-LCR is a 3-way in-ceiling speaker featuring a pivoting IDC 4” mid-range/1” tweeter module, and an 8” C-CAM bass driver with RST. The C380-FX is a 3-driver/2-way surround effects speaker featuring dual 2” C-CAM tweeters, and an 8” C-CAM bass driver with RST. It can be configured to deliver direct or diffuse surround-sound effects via front-mounted switch.

Technologies

IDC® An Inverted Dual Concentric pivoting mid-range/tweeter module, which provides up to 18 degrees of movement, allowing speakers to be discreetly positioned and directed towards the desired listening zone. The design offers superior performance and flexibility over a typical 2-way or fixed angle speaker by utilising an inverted 4” C-CAM RST mid-range and 1” C-CAM dome tweeter, operating in a completely sealed chamber to provide accurate damping and perfect acoustic alignment.

C-CAM®

Created originally by aerospace engineers for jet-engine blades, Ceramic-Coated Aluminium/Magnesium exhibits the ideal properties for accurate sound reproduction, being extremely strong but very light in weight. Unlike conventional cone materials which are liable to flex in operation producing a significant level of audible distortion, C-CAM remains rigid under pressure yet is light enough to be able to reproduce the finest detail.

RST®

The RST cone surface is patterned with radial ridges, which reduce mass, increase stiffness and eliminate the bending associated with conventional metal cone designs. The result is a smoother, more agile response, better control of break-up and a wider dynamic range.

Tri-Grip

The Tri-Grip system has three clamping points per dog-leg providing a significantly greater clamping surface area and a better surface seal maximising bass response and mid-range clarity.

New 300 Series loudspeakers Approx retail prices: W380LCR £ 300.00 each, C380LCR £ 290.00 each, C380FX £ 240.00 each Availability: June 2008
