Paradigm AV presents the dnp Supernova - the new standard in high brightness projection (9/6/2008)

Stand C9, CEDIA UK Expo 2008

Over the past two decades Paradigm AV has become renowned as a global expert in delivering the projected image - striving towards perfection and the highest visual acuity no matter what the daylight conditions or brightness of the environment.

After a long period of success distributing dnp Denmark's optical rear projection screens - largely to the commercial sector - Paradigm took the audio visual world by surprise last year when, for the first time, the company introduced a family of optical front-projection screens under the 'Supernova' banner' - which, in turn, has led them into the residential market.

It is contrast that gives a picture depth, nuance and atmosphere - and Supernova screens deliver up to ten times higher contrast; and because advanced active optical technology filters out unwanted reflections, Supernova delivers this image quality even in broad daylight.

Immediately named 'Product of the Year' by the Confederation of Danish Industries upon its launch, Supernova technology is based on advanced film technology; this involves nine separate micro thin layers, which absorb ambient lighting and filter out the unwanted reflections. Thus, for the first time ever, there's no need to dim the lights when using a front projection solution or dedicate a darkened room for home entertainment purposes.

The original Supernova One incorporated these core technologies, featuring an optical lens system that focused and concentrated the projected light before reflecting it back towards viewers - with a patented contrast enhancement filter absorbing diffused light from windows and room lighting. Optimised for high gain, higher contrast and greater brightness translated into more vivid colours and more detailed images, even in broad daylight.

Realising the importance of aesthetics - particularly in residential use - dnp provided a stylised brushed aluminium or black velour-finished frame, and black velvet masking making the product available in standard sizes up to 120in and offering 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio.

dnp Denmark immediately saw the scope for rolling out a family of Supernovas for different applications - and different sizes.

For instance, Supernova Infinity is a modular, expandable system offering unlimited screen size possibilities (with each module held together by a series of magnets, thereby dispensing with disturbing bezels and grid lines to break up the image).

But the demand from the home cinema market was not long in coming and dnp Denmark responded by introducing the Supernova Flex and Supernova Core - both of which make their debut at this year's CEDIA Show on Stand C9.

Of special interest to the home cinema market is the recent ISF (Image Science Foundation) benchmark - which certifies that the fabric on Supernova Flex meets the specifications that define the best video display available for consumers.

The screen combines superior image quality, minimal space requirements and ease of installation to deliver an astonishing combination of higher contrast and extreme brightness. And since the entire screen is retractable, it amalgamates the exceptional Supernova image quality with a discreet and stylish presence.

The Supernova Flex is suspended by thin wires and blends perfectly into the environment. When the screen drops down it appears as a picture frame without the usual 'black drop' common to other screens. Even when in use the Supernova will be unobtrusive and blend into the environment.

The screen is offered in a variety of options including a special stainable suspending wire, which can be painted to match the wall for a near invisible installation.

When not in use, the new flexible screen disappears into a stylish wall mounted enclosure that complements modern interior designs.

The dnp Supernova Flex Screen is available in 4:3, 16:9 and cinemascope format in sizes up to 100in - providing a greater visual experience than any other flat screen.

"We believe that Supernova Flex will redefine the quality of large-scale home cinema projection," promises Paradigm AV director, Greg Jeffreys.

The Danish manufacturers completed their pioneering range with the introduction of Supernova Core - which is also targeted at the residential market.

Available in widescreen and standard versions, Supernova Core provides a large, high-quality display at a reduced investment level. The screen comes rolled into a stretch, veloured frame that is easy to assemble, as metal rods slip into pockets sewn in on the back of the screen. The rods and adjustable hooks on the back of the frame connect to enable it to be hung rigidly on the wall. This will be demonstrated at CEDIA.

By enabling users to assemble the screen themselves, the dnp Supernova Core provides all the benefits of Supernova Screen technology in an economical frame construction.

The Supernova Core comes in a variety of sizes up to 120in, complete with a black flock frame and straightforward assembly instructions. Using a 100% flat screen surface for perfect, undistorted images it is compatible with all LCD, DLP and LCOS projectors.

In addition, Supernova Core provides an elegant solution for boardrooms and conference rooms (as well as 3D/VR environments) where the access to the point of installation is restricted - or alternatively for projects where the budget does not support a low labour high capital cost.

"We are looking forward to demonstrating to installation consultants in the residential sector how the Supernova series will integrate with multi-room systems to provide a new dimension to the audio-visual experience," stated Jeffreys.
