Tapestries shows motorized Tapestry Flat-Screen Cover (13/8/2008)

CEDIA UK Expo 2008

Tapestries, Ltd., a manufacturer and wholesaler of home furnishings since 1973, was the first company in the United States to produce decorative finials for displaying with tapestries and has been a leader in the development of decorative wall accents. They will showcase the Tapestry Flat-Screen Cover at CEDIA Expo in Denver, September 4-7.

Tapestries, Ltd. has created an innovative product called a Tapestry Flat-Screen Cover. It is a tapestry which hangs on a motorized rod and, using a simple remote control to raise and lower the tapestry, easily hides and reveals a wall-mounted flat-screen TV.

Andrew Kane, CEO of Tapestries, Ltd., knew his customers needed a practical way of hiding large flat-screen televisions when not in use. “The mounting sales of these televisions in the last few years has escalated the need in the home furnishings industry for a decorative solution. Our 35 years of innovation helped us create a sensible product that is easy to use, elegant, and less expensive than other solutions,” Kane says.

The Tapestry Flat-Screen Cover offers a stylish, yet economical solution to hiding the flat-screen television. Users press the button on the included remote control to lower the tapestry into place, changing the personality of the room from casual to elegant in seconds.

Customers choose the tapestry design that suits their décor and the proper size to cover their TV and to fit their living space. Tapestries, Ltd. offers hundreds of beautiful tapestries, woven on traditional jacquard looms throughout Europe, as well as exquisite hand-woven tapestries woven in the aubusson style. The display brackets are hand-painted and are available in various designs and finishes to coordinate with the tapestry, while serving the function of supporting the motorized rod.

Kane notes that wall mounted televisions are becoming prevalent in all rooms of the home, not just media rooms. “Custom electronic designers and interior designers are working together to integrate the ever-present screens with the decorative ambiance of the room”, Kane says. “We offer a tool to make that integration easier.”

Tapestries, Ltd. has a patent pending on the Tapestry Flat-Screen Cover, which can be used with any size tapestry, because the rod is custom cut to fit the tapestry. The maximum width of the rod is 86” and the maximum weight of the tapestry is 12 lbs., so the majority of the Tapestries, Ltd. tapestries can be used with the motorized unit. The motor is powered by either a 12V battery wand or AC power through a wall plug. An upgraded motor is available which is compatible with universal remote controls, for use in media rooms with home automation systems.

The suggested retail price, including the motor, power supply, rod, hardware and remote control, starts at $476, plus the cost of the preferred tapestry and display brackets. A complete package, including a standard Belgian tapestry to cover a 42” or 46” television, display brackets and a motorized rod set, carries a suggested retail price of under $1000.
