Gefen demonstrates Ethernet Extenders Use Existing Cable Infrastructure to Deliver Internet Anywhere in the Home (2/9/2008)

CEDIA US Expo 2008

CEDIA Booth 518

Offering true plug and play functionality, the GefenTV Ethernet over Powerline and Ethernet over Coax extension systems are being demonstrated by Gefen at CEDIA. Both units operate through a small sender and receiver connecting an Ethernet signal from its source to any room in the same building using the existing cable/wiring infrastructure. This method of Ethernet distribution cuts costs with a reliable, wired and secure transmission system that offers total portability throughout the home or office.

GefenTV Ethernet over Powerline

This innovative system offers one of the easiest methods of Ethernet distribution available today. By using the existing in-wall wiring, users can access the Internet without any additional wiring, anywhere in the building. Users simply plug their cable or DSL modem into the sender unit, which is plugged into the wall jack for power. The Internet signal is transmitted through this powerline connection to any other wall jack in the home; users access the Internet by plugging the receiver unit into any other wall jack. The receiver's four-port hub delivers up to four active Internet connections with speeds up to 200 Mbps, offering an instant and secure transmission boasting a better performance than today's wi-fi systems.

GefenTV Ethernet over Coax

This sender/receiver system uses the same methodology as the powerline version, but uses any home's existing coaxial cables to distribute the Internet with no new cables required. The sender links the live Ethernet signal to the cabling infrastructure using a coaxial port while the receiver delivers four active Internet connections anywhere in the home or office.

"We've tested this unit internally on a dedicated coax line with a delivery range of over 850 feet at transmission speeds reaching up to 600 megabits per second," said Hagai Gefen, president and CEO, Gefen Inc. "This makes the GefenTV Ethernet over Coax extender a high performance solution offering one of the easiest and most reliable ways to access the Internet in large-scale homes today without rewiring."

Both extenders from Gefen come with easy installation directions and built-in security codes to protect the system.
