SpeakerCraft Announces Sound Pillows Two Surface Mounted Speaker Options (3/10/2008)

CEDIA US Expo 2008

Perfect solution when no installation depth is available

SpeakerCraft, America’s original manufacturer of in-wall speakers is pleased to announce the Sound Pillows. These softly sculpted surface mount speakers can be mounted on any solid surface with only a small cutout for the wire terminations.

“Making things easy for the installers is one of our prime concerns,” said Dave Donald, SpeakerCraft’s V.P. of Marketing. “The Sound Pillows take ease of installation to a new level.”

Installers have a choice of two mounting methods depending on the surface. A “dog frame” allows for installation in standard drywall with flip-out dogs that sandwich the drywall like a standard in-wall speaker. A mounting plate is then attached to the frame. This mounting plate also contains the speaker wire connections. Wires are attached to the plate and the connections to the speaker itself take place automatically when the speaker is connected to the plate and secured with two push-in tabs. The mounting plate can also be directly mounted to the wall surface or to a junction box if desired. The speaker is once again connected by simply pressing it onto the mounting plate and pushing in the mounting tabs.

“These are great speakers for MDU applications where cutting into the wall is either not allowed or not preferred.” Said Jeremy Burkhardt, SpeakerCraft’s CEO. “Since the speakers technically reside in the room instead of in the wall there are also no sound transmission concerns that are often a problem in luxury apartments or condominiums. The speakers can also be easily removed and taken to another location when the owner moves.”

The woofer is a 5 1/4-inch Kevlar® driver with a 1-inch coaxially mounted, pivoting, silk dome tweeter. The Sound Pillows are available in either round or square versions with identical driver configurations and sonic performance.
