Niko celebrates 90 years with the formation of Niko UK (6/2/2009) Niko, the Belgian market-leading control company, was founded in 1919 by the De Backer brothers in the town of Sint-Niklaas, where from their workshop, they produced a range of standard products which rapidly became popular making Niko the Belgian market leader in switches and socket outlets; a position held ever since. As it celebrates its 90th year, Niko has marked its commitment to expanding its market for home automation, lighting systems and related products with the establishment of a subsidiary in the UK formed out of its UK distributor, USD Limited. USD Limited was formed five years ago by husband and wife team, Stephen and Karen Calder to provide an integrated solution for installers. In that time, USD Limited has enjoyed tremendous success, becoming a highly respected supplier to installers operating in both the commercial and residential sectors.
Recognising the potential for future growth in this market, Niko has employed the skills and expertise developed within USD to form its own UK company. Ensuring continuity, Niko (UK) Limited will be staffed by the existing team, headed up by Stephen and Karen Calder. Commenting on the new company, Stephen Calder said "We have enjoyed tremendous success working with Niko to develop the market for them in the UK. The creation of Niko UK is the next logical step in this phase, so we are more than a little excited to have been approached by our friends at Niko to do this with them." Niko (UK) Limited commenced operations in January and has already moved into an impressive new headquarters building in Toddington, just off Junction12 of the M1, where the new training suite is already proving popular.
