Lagotek Acquires RS Scene Automation Giving it a Motorised Window Covering Product Line (30/4/2009) Lagotek Corporation, a leader in residential and commercial building automation, today announced the acquisition of certain assets of RS Scene Automation LLC, a Seattle-based developer of wired and wireless control systems for motorized window coverings. Assets being acquired include a line of Z-Wave motor controls that were originally designed and developed in cooperation with Lagotek. The acquisition transfers all rights to the intellectual property of these products including all wired control systems developed by RS Scene. "This acquisition provides a great technology foundation for Lagotek's expansion within the residential and commercial markets for motorized window coverings," said Ron Risdon, president of Lagotek. "With both wired and wireless controls, our Home Intelligence Platform now supports the most sophisticated of motorization features." Controls include integrated functionality between lighting, climate control and motorized window coverings. Both residential and soon to be released commercial applications will automatically capture natural light and control the use of artificial light while maintaining maximum energy efficiency. According to the Department of Energy, lighting accounts for 20% of residential heating bills and 44% of the electricity used in office buildings. Heating and air conditioning represents 45% of home energy consumption. Lagotek's integration of the controls that manage these systems is designed to significantly reduce overall consumption in each category. "We're excited to be a part of the Lagotek vision for energy conservation and user convenience," said Kendall Russell, former RS Scene executive and now Lagotek's general manager of motorization. "The benefits of motorized window coverings are magnified when they are tied to an automation system. Lagotek has the most compelling residential automation system in the marketplace today, and our products will accelerate the transition to commercial applications in the near future. I believe the synergies that come from this combination will be very compelling."
