KNX UK highlights benefits of integrated approach to home AV and building control (26/6/2009)

CEDIA UK Expo 2009

The KNX UK Association represents organisations involved in the supply, installation and use of intelligent building products based on the KNX, the worldwide standard for home and building control. KNX products are now widely specified for a wide range of residential and commercial new build and refurbishment projects, offering the potential for major energy savings and guaranteed interoperability with other KNX certified products.

The international KNX Association has joined forces with CEDIA and forged a reciprocal agreement which involves working together in the development of joint training and awareness initiatives. KNX is already used by a number of CEDIA members and the agreement will help to ensure that installations of residential AV systems and KNX building control systems are considered in harmony. Awareness of the benefits of KNX amongst systems integrators will also be further increased and CEDIA members will be encouraged to choose KNX as their preferred protocol.

According to KNX UK, the truly integrated building has a single control network performing many functions. This in itself has advantages in terms of sustainability, non-duplication of networks, less cabling and reduced installation time/ costs. One systems integrator can take responsibility for the whole installation, resulting in reduced labour & materials, less waste, reduced transportation/packaging costs and no duplication of PCs and other equipment.
