ThinkFlood Unveils RedEye Universal Remote Control System for the iPhone (30/6/2009)

The connected home is one step closer to reality with the introduction of the first available iPhone universal remote control, released today in a public beta version from ThinkFlood. Using ThinkFlood's RedEye system, consumers now have the ability to control their televisions, DVRs, game systems and other home entertainment devices using their iPhone or iPod touch. Consisting of a small, production-grade hardware device and a free downloadable software beta application, the RedEye system transforms an iPhone or iPod touch into a universal remote control, allowing consumers to control an almost unlimited number of home entertainment devices.

* The RedEye software application can be downloaded for free from iTunes to any iPhone or iPod Touch device. Once downloaded, the iPhone/iPod is able to communicate with the RedEye hub using Wi-Fi, meaning no line of sight is required and control is possible from any room in the house. RedEye receives the iPhone's commands and sends out infrared signals to control the designated devices.
* RedEye is a simple plug-and-play system that requires no additional hardware or setup expertise. Using RedEye's elegant and intuitive interface, users can operate their iPhone remote with one hand to control an almost infinite number of devices from multiple rooms.
* A single RedEye device can communicate simultaneously with multiple iPhone or iPod touch devices, so everyone in the house can have a personal remote control.

Pricing & Availability

A limited number of RedEye hardware devices are being offered to beta customers at a special introductory price of $119. Full commercial availability is scheduled for September 2009, at which time it will be priced at $149. The RedEye hub was designed to accommodate future functionality, meaning beta users will not be required to purchase new hardware when the commercial version becomes available. The RedEye application is a free download from the App Store or iTunes.
