Symmetry launches System Audio's Jiffy compact loudspeakers in the UK (21/8/2009)

System Audio has built an enviable reputation for the sound of their loudspeakers and you’d have to walk many a country mile to find a small loudspeaker that sounds better than the “Jiffy”; launched in the UK by Symmetry, the highly respected UK high-end hi-fi distribution company. And even if you did find better, you’d probably find it would be another System Audio design.

The Jiffy is the company’s least expensive loudspeaker but there’s been no cost cutting in the construction. Just touching the lacquered surface and feeling the faultless finish and the four kilogram weight reveals that the money has been spent maintaining the quality.

These compact loudspeakers are outstandingly versatile. Although they will often be stood on a bookcase or a shelf they also have a wall mounting fixture on the back panel. A fixture that incorporates a VESA standard plate so that this speaker can be mounted on the swivel fixtures used to mount LCD televisions. Hence they can be fixed to the wall with a single screw; mounted on a bookcase, on the floor (using the FS3 stand), onto a table (using the TS1 stand), a shelf - or wherever you’ve got a bit of free space. Finished in black or white paint with matching fronts (with a grey option) they easily blend into the decor and furnishings of any room.

The drive units feature neodymium magnets and build on the virtues of other successful System Audio designs. The woofer cone is a special type of impregnated cardboard; maybe not a material that looks hi-tech but which provides by far the best sound. The tweeter a soft, textile dome that produces a warm, detailed sound. A wave guide wrapped around the membrane controls the sound dispersion and sound reflections from the speaker's front plate.

System Audio loudspeakers have been manufactured in Denmark since 1984 and the company’s reputation for impressive performance from its loudspeakers has been built on a family of compact loudspeakers that are able to produce a much bigger sound than anyone could imagine. Their sound is fast and dynamic without being aggressive; smooth without being dull and delivering a powerful bass without being boomy or uncontrolled.
