IFA 2009 TecWatch - experience the future (21/8/2009) Ideas and solutions for the media, communication, ease of operation and the lifestyle of tomorrow Television and web technologies are converging to form new, interactive media, with screens presenting three-dimensional entertainment and information. Gesturing and voice commands trigger electronic functions throughout the entire house, complex technologies dramatically reduce the energy consumption and improve the ease of use of household appliances. Are these simply the visions of a far-off future? IFA TecWatch is showing these developments right now - the innovative technological potential of the world of digital media and modern home appliances. TecWatch will present exciting prospects for new markets in Hall 5.3 at IFA. Publicly funded and industry research institutions, universities, joint projects and standards institutions will present their latest developments here. TecWatch exhibits are divided into five theme categories: Easy Living With products and services ranging from an automated household, eco-friendly home appliances, a mobile car sharing centre, to navigational aids for the blind, exhibitors will be showing how in future sophisticated technology will make people's lives easier, more comfortable, safer and more healthy. Personal Home Are broadcasting networks determining our media consumption habits? In future we will no longer accept this lack of choice. New, interactive media concepts will offer personalised content - be it in the living room, on the move, on large TV screens or portable, pocket-sized electronic devices. TecWatch will show new ideas for applications - and the technology they are using to become reality. Innovative Audio What follows when analogue radio goes? There are a number of alternative technical developments offering themselves as the sequel to traditional radio, and there are modern networking solutions waiting to play music and voice content in the entire house. TecWatch has the bigger picture. Smart interfaces The consumer electronics and telecommunication products of tomorrow will no longer need keys and buttons. Future generations of devices will react to voice commands and gesturing. Screens will also become more and more adapted to human requirements. They will be able to display a third dimension, just as our natural ability to observe things expects. Theseus This is the name of a research project sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology whose aim is to make all digital knowledge on the internet accessible in easier and more efficient ways. TecWatch will show fascinating technological insights into this demanding project, which involves 30 research institutions, universities and companies. Outstanding papers and discussion rounds will accompany the TecWatch exhibition for its entire duration. However, TecWatch is aimed not only at technical experts, decision-makers from industry and trade journalists. TecWatch is a shop window that attracts all visitors with an interest in technical subjects, especially young people with an intuitive and open- minded approach to modern technology. IFA TecWatch cordially invites all visitors to IFA to be inspired by the unique variety of ideas for ease of operation, entertainment, and quality of experiencing life that tomorrow has to offer. TecWatch is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the entire duration of the fair.
