Abitana Adds New Gigabit Ethernet Switch to its Smart Media Product Range (1/9/2009)

Do you often work with large files like films, pictures or music? Then you will certainly appreciate a fast home network. The abitana Smart Media cabling was already designed to handle fast traffic. Now the abitana Smart Media product range includes a Gigabit Ethernet Switch to complete your high-speed network in the central patch cabinet.

And probably more speed is not the only thing you’d like to have, also the desired number of connections in the home is growing. That’s why our new Gigabit switch provides you with eight 10/100/1000 Mbps ports.

The ports automatically recognise all attached network equipment and choose the highest possible bit rate (10, 100 or 1000Mbps) and transmission mode for each equipment. The auto MDI/MDIX function eliminates the need (and risk of errors) for crossover patch cords. The module is fitted with a 5 Volt output connector to pass the supply power through to other Smart Media modules (e.g. an extra switch, amplifier, modulator,…). This allows optimal use of the abitana power supply ABI-PS1001S00.

Three of the eight ports may be forced in Fast Ethernet mode and carry a secondary phone or data signal over the same RJ45 link. The secondary signal is connected to the RJ11 injection ports on the top of the unit by using special patch cords ABI-PC2002S01 (data-data) or ABI-PC2002S04 (data-phone). This practical solution reduces the number of required wire links in environments like a home office where there is a shortage of connection sockets.
