Gefen Releases Uncompressed 1080p/60 Wireless HDMI Solution (5/10/2009)

CEDIA US Expo 2009

Connectivity solutions provider Gefen is set to release its third wireless solution for transmitting HDMI video and audio across the room without cables. The GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz Extender uses innovative WirelessHD technology.

By allowing home entertainment system installers to place high definition televisions in hard to reach locations, the GefenTV Wireless for HDMI 60Ghz Extender simplifies installations.

Outdoor areas, ceiling mounted projectors and televisions placed over fireplaces are free from expensive and long runs of cabling. Instead, cutting-edge 60Ghz technology offers a reliable method of signal delivery that has proven itself to be just as steadfast as traditional wired solutions.

This sender/receiver system extends HDMI up to 30 feet (10m) using a radio based on SiBeam technology. A line of sight placement is recommended but not mandatory. The sender is connected to the audio/video source, and supports all HDMI devices including gaming systems, Blu-ray players and set-top boxes. The receiver is connected to the extended display. Multichannel audio is delivered alongside 1080p full HD video in the HDMI format.

This uncompressed method of 1080p/60 full HD video transmission with multi-channel 5.1 surround sound audio makes it ideal for today’s most demanding systems, particularly gaming, due to its low latency.

“We are thrilled to see Gefen release one of the first solutions on the market that harnesses 60Ghz WirelessHD radio technology,” said John Marshall, Chairman of the WirelessHD Consortium. “With 4Gbps of unprecedented bandwidth for high quality lossless HD A/V delivery and the fact that it has significantly less chances of interference than any of the other radio-based technologies, we feel this model will become widely accepted in all environments seeking a stable method of high definition signal transmission without wires.
