Rotel launches 06 SE Series of CD player and stereo amplifiers (24/11/2009)

New Special Edition models of high-quality, affordable CD player and stereo amplifiers. Significant audio updates to key sonic components result in significant improvement in performance across whole range. Key components and upgrades follow tuning of flagship 15 Series.

Following in the footsteps of the highly successful 15 Series hi-fi components launched to much acclaim earlier this year, Rotel is pleased to announce Special Edition versions of its more affordable 06 Series. The range has long been the standard by which entry-level audiophile stereo components are judged, and the new Special Edition models raise the bar once again.

Four new components are available immediately, including updated versions of the classic CD player and three stereo amplifiers. All four have undergone significant upgrades over the models they replace, and offer the discerning buyer even better value for money in terms of audio ability, as well as maintaining Rotel’s excellent reputation for build quality.

The RCD-06 SE replaces the very popular RCD-06. Externally there’s little difference between the components, and the new SE version has the same sleek styling and remarkable-at-the-price build quality as the original. However, internally, the RCD-06 SE has undergone major changes, many of which are a direct result of developments made during the creation of the flagship 15 Series of Rotel hi-fi products. Top of this list is the replacement of the original Burr Brown DAC with a new model from Wolfson.

Key components and circuits to support this new DAC have also been upgraded, including selected components for both the filter and buffer stages, the precision resistors used in the input circuits, low-noise resistor feeds to the DAC, and selected input and output coupling capacitors. All of which add up to an even more rewarding audio experience.

The RA-06 SE stereo amplifier has similarly benefitted from developments from the 15 Series. Extensive time spent tuning, upgrading and switching components in this model has resulted in a product that shares the original slim-line good looks and build quality of the RA-06, but takes its audio performance to the next level.

The major changes include a significant update to the way in which the power supply is decoupled from the input switching and buffer stages. The input filter capacitors in the buffer stages have also been updated, as has the phono stage. These along with other upgraded components have resulted in a significantly improved performance.

Similar changes and developments derived from the flagship 15 Series have resulted in updated and improved RA-05 SE and RA-04 SE stereo amplifiers, providing significantly improved levels of performance across the whole of Rotel’s acclaimed range of budget audiophile equipment.
