SIM2 present C3X LUMIS, the next evolution of the C3X family of projectors (15/12/2009)

SIM2, the Italian manufacturer of high-performance HD home theatre and commercial projectors that have a worldwide reputation for pristine video performance and innovative design, introduce the C3X LUMIS - the latest generation of the award winning Grand Cinema™ C3X series - to the UK.

The pinnacle of projection performance still lies with 3-chip DLP® technology and this is at the heart of the C3X series. This range of projectors utilises technology that is totally unique to SIM2, representing the culmination of 10 years of innovation and research in the field of video projector design. This technology enables SIM2 to deliver the smallest and highest-performing Full HD 3-Chip projectors on the market, with the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS packing the most power yet for premium performance, all within the dramatic industrial design for which SIM2 is justly famous.

The Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS projector achieves extraordinary picture quality through the partnership of the latest 0.95" 1080p DC4 DLP® chipset from Texas Instruments, the precision optics of SIM2’s new re-designed ALPHAPATH™ light engine, SIM2’s DynamicBlack™ technology enhanced solution, and a completely re-designed electronics assembly. No other projector technology can match the superb colour depth, black level performance, excellent contrast ratio (up to 35,000:1) and exceptional brightness (up to 3000 ANSI Lumens) that the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS is able to deliver.

The improved black level performance enables the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS to produce images that contain the maximum amount of detail possible in dark scenes without compromising the excellent dynamic range available from DLP technology. SIM2 has developed a unique solution to achieve this, using three distinct specialised components: a user adjustable iris, DynamicBlack™ technology and a new dimmable lamp. These key ingredients allow the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS to be easily configured to meet the exacting requirements of a wide range of home theatre and professional applications, optimising light intensity and black level to each scenario.

The new ALPHAPATH™ light engine features two key components. First, a new die-cast aluminium body dramatically improves thermal management of the light engine, which means a more powerful lamp can be used to deliver brighter images. Secondly, a new tapered rod-integrator, designed to accept the raw light energy from the lamp and convert it into a pure & refined beam of light. This new design helps further improve brightness uniformity and efficiency of light transmission.

All the connectivity and features demanded by custom-theatre designers and installers are present in this product: two selectable HDMI inputs (both fully HDCP-compliant), inputs for legacy formats including composite, S-video, component and an RGBHV (VGA) connection.

Both RS-232 serial and USB ports are included to ease connectivity for control and software/firmware communications.

12-volt trigger outputs, IR-sensor inputs, various lens options covering a range of throw ratios from 1.31-3.9:1 and anamorphic projection functionality for uncompromised widescreen reproduction of films in 2:35:1 format are all built in for total flexibility of installation.

The Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS was the star of the show at the September 2009 CEDIA Expo in Atlanta, where it had its world debut. Throughout the duration of the show, the full theatre presentation was standing room only as the C3X LUMIS demonstrated its stunning imagery from its stylish chassis. Meanwhile, at the 2009 Residential Systems magazine’s Resi Awards reception, which was held during the Expo, the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS HOST - the C3X LUMIS’s big brother with similar design but off-board processing that was launched earlier in the year - won the Resi Award for the best projector 2009.

In the best SIM2 tradition, the Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS is housed in a new stunning cabinet by renowned industrial designer Giorgio Revoldini. The Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS is now shipping in the standard High-Gloss Gun Metal finish at an MSRP of £24,995, or is available by special order in White, Black or Red colour cases.
