Duco introduces DucoTronic system using CO2 sensors based on Z-Wave technology to automate ventilation in homes (22/12/2009)

The Z-Wave Alliance has a new member. The Belgian company Duco Ventilation & Sun Control is one of the leading European manufacturers of natural ventilation and sunlight protection systems. Duco solutions ensure a healthy, comfortable and energy efficient indoor environment. The new DucoTronic System, which is based on Z-Wave wireless technology, uses CO2 sensors to automate ventilation in homes.

An adequate supply of fresh air and a regulated humidity balance are important pre-requisites for a healthy indoor environment in homes and offices. Without these, there is a significant risk that mould can form and cause allergies. It is therefore necessary to ensure that odours, moisture and hazardous dust particles are efficiently removed. The best way of doing this is by providing sufficient ventilation. However, manual ventilation often wastes energy, such as when windows are opened despite the heating being turned on. The new DucoTronic System makes it possible to automate ventilation procedures in an efficient manner.

CO2 sensors: fresh air at the right time

DucoTronic is a natural ventilation system. It uses CO2 sensors, which can be easily installed in individual rooms, to continually adapt the indoor environment to the specific conditions inside and outside the building. The sensors react as soon as the carbon dioxide levels or the temperature in the respective room rises, as these are two important indicators of indoor air quality. This information is sent to the relevant Duco ventilation modules, which are windproof and are integrated into wooden, aluminium or plastic framed windows. The system thereby only provides ventilation where it is required as a result of the current indoor conditions. If nobody is at home it shuts down in order to consume as little energy as possible. Communication between the various devices is carried out using the Z-Wave wireless transmission protocol and this enables a continuous stream of fresh air to be provided with the lowest possible energy consumption.

Solutions for a "green home"

Health, a pleasant home environment and energy conservation are the key priorities of the Duco "Green Building Solutions". These work to counter the emergence of so-called "Sick Building Syndrome", which becomes apparent when allergies and infections are caused and existing conditions such as asthma deteriorate. An optimal combination of shading and natural ventilation along building facades allows the creation of healthy, comfortable and energy-saving buildings.

Duco Ventilation & Sun Control was established in 1991 and is based in Veurne (Belgium). It has already been awarded various international prizes for excellent performance in the fields of innovation, management and exporting.
