Sharp introduces four primary colour technology to its AQUOS LCD TVs (7/1/2010) As a global leader in LCD technology, Sharp has revealed its new home cinema line-up at CES 2010. Unveiled are three new series of UltraBrilliant Edge-lit AQUOS LED LCD TVs from 32” to 60” that incorporate Sharp’s new, and completely unique, RGBY matrix technology that includes yellow. Created at the World’s first 10th Generation LCD plant in Japan, the new series offer unprecedented colour quality on-screen and come in a super slim design only 1.6 inches thick. Sharp’s proprietary four primary colour technology is an industry first, adding a fourth colour to the RGB pixel framework of the TV. In addition to the three primary colours of red, green and blue, technology offers a fourth dimension of display colour, represented as yellow. This enables the reproduction of colours, which up until now, TVs have been unable to accurately display. This means Sharp’s new range can reproduce more than one trillion colours and show more realistic pictures than conventional TVs, bringing images like idyllic beaches and sparkling sunsets in to the viewers front room in even greater quality. “As a pioneer in the LCD industry, Sharp continues to advance the technology, introducing its first LED-backlight LCD TV on the market less than two years ago and paving the way for larger screen sizes, thin designs and Internet connectivity,” said Mikio Katayama, president and chief operating officer, Sharp Corporation. “We have changed the way an LCD TV produces an image with the new four primary colour technology, allowing us to broaden the visual experience and immerse consumers in a new world of colour.” In the UK, the LC-LE920E and LC-LE820E are available in 40”, 46” and 60” sizes while the LC-LE720E is available in 32”, 40” and 46”. Each model is HD-ready 1080p and incorporates Sharp’s UltraBrilliant Edge-lit panel technology, which has been designed to deliver mega contrast - improving the perception of depth and clarity in every image. In addition to this, the flagship model of the series, the LC-LE920E, will be supported by 200Hz technology, which means that even the fastest moving images and sports will be clear and well defined. In addition to the new panel, the design concept of the new series will showcase a change in direction of Sharp’s TV rage that transcends the boundaries of the modern TV. The screen is mounted on a transparent glass stand, which runs around the edge of the panel body. Completing the new look, the wires and cables at the back of each set have been completely covered in a silver casing. “With the launch of the RGBY colour matrix in these new AQUOS LED series, we have established yet another milestone in the development of LCD TVs. The new range is designed to bring our customers the very best quality in home entertainment products and with the next generation UltraBrilliant Edge-lit LED backlight technology, these new models will deliver a new visual experience and immerse the view in a never-before-seen-on TV world of colour”, said Paul Molyneux, managing director, Sharp Electronics UK. An additional benefit of the UltraBrilliant Edge-lit LED technology is the energy saving properties. When combined with Sharp’s 1080p X-Gen LCD panel, which incorporates UV2A Technology, the energy needed to produce the on screen image is reduced. This offers a dramatic reduction in energy consumption compared to conventional fluorescent-backlight LCD TVs. Pricing and availability: The LC-LE920E, LC-LE820E and LC-LE720E will be available in the UK from March 2010. Pricing to be confirmed.
