Russ Andrews Introduces SuperKord Classic-SD Main Cable with New RFI Reducing Technology (11/2/2010) Russ Andrews Accessories has introduced the latest addition to its renowned portfolio of mains cables products. The SuperKord Classic-SD™ is the first cable from the company to feature the (patent pending) SawyersDisc Technology™, the result of many months of research into ways to reduce the harmful effects of radio frequency interference. Since the company introduced what it believes was the world’s first audiophile mains cable in 1986, the original PowerKord, it has been striving to find ways of further reducing RFI. The woven cable geometry of the PowerKords is well known as a successful means of rejecting RFI; each point at which the cables cross shows a measurable reduction. However, the nature of the cable weave gives rise to peaks and troughs in the rejection, as each wire moves away from the crossing point, the RFI rejection decreases. The more conductors employed the greater the rejection properties are, but an infinite number of cables is impractical and so a new means of approaching the problem was sought. Working with Dr Craig Sawyers, who reviewed the recent independent research into the effectiveness of the company’s cables, and well known mains expert, Ben Duncan, the company has developed a totally new means of enhancing the RFI rejecting properties of the woven cables. Dr Sawyers was always concerned with the termination of the weave in the plug, which saw the cables simply split into two multi-strand conductors before termination. The result of the research is a new way terminating each individual conductor at the end using a series of perforated discs, with smoother and more even rejection across a wider range of frequencies, which is also many times deeper and clearly measurable. …/ The company has also developed new ways of mechanically damping the the mains plug, Wattgate 350i Ag IEC connector and the Sawyers Discs themselves. The consumer benefit is a big step up in performance. Information that was always on the CDs, but hidden by the effects of RFI, is suddenly revealed, bringing the listener much closer to the music, providing a more tuneful low frequency performance and a more natural midrange and treble presentation. Russ Andrews, managing director, said of the new SuperKord Classic-SD “I’ve tested these cables against our existing Silver PowerKord on my system and the result was such a huge step up in performance that I can safely say this is the most significant development in mains cable technology since we launched our woven PowerKords back in 1986.” Russ went on to say “Dr Sawyers and Ben Duncan have worked tirelessly to find ways of improving our already excellent mains cables and I am very pleased that the results enable us to offer such a substantial product improvement to our customers.” Prices: Russ Andrews SuperKord Classic-SD £350 1m
