Imerge Announces 2TB Hard Drives for its XiVASafe Storage (19/2/2010) Pioneering home media server manufacturer moves from 1TB to 2TB drives, at minimal additional cost to the consumer Imerge, the Cambridge-based pioneer of hard disk home media servers, is delighted to announce a move from 1TB* to 2TB drives for its class-leading XiVASafe storage components, companions to the MediaServer MS1 – the world’s most advanced management and archiving solution for music and movies. The move from 1TB to 2TB drives effectively doubles the storage capacities available from the XiVASafe range within each given chassis. Capacity of the entry-level XiVASafe component has leapt from 1TB to 2TB – sufficient space to store the contents of around 3,000 uncompressed album-length CDs, or 300 DVDs – complete with RAID 1 mirrored configuration (this means that an exact copy of all data is kept on a second 2TB drive, for genuine peace of mind). Moving up the XiVASafe range, the switch to 2TB drives has a tremendous impact on the flagship XiVASafe iSCSI chassis. Each chassis holds eight hard drives in RAID 6 configuration, meaning that when fully populated with 2TB drives, it delivers a massive 12TB of usable ultra-high performance storage – sufficient for 18,000 uncompressed CDs, or 1,800 DVDs – while keeping two of the drives ‘redundant’ in case of disk failure. The XiVASafe iSCSI brings enterprise-grade robustness and resilience to the residential market, its RAID 6 specification ensuring the same level of data security as that required by medical, financial and government institutions, thereby delivering ultimate peace of mind to the end user. Furthermore, XiVASafe is infinitely scalable, so users may add further storage without limitation as their digital libraries grow. Although not the first server manufacturer to announce a shift to 2TB drives, Imerge has undergone extensive testing to ensure the new drives are in line with the exemplary levels of reliability for which the company is known, prior to implementation. Imerge users entrust their precious media – movies, music and more – to the company’s servers, and it is imperative that anyone purchasing an Imerge product can have total confidence that his/her digital media is in safe hands. Rather than switch supplier in order to rush 2TB drives to market, Imerge continues to source its drives from Hitachi, a company with an excellent reputation for the reliability of its hard drives. This enables Imerge to deliver a consistent level of quality that is not always prevalent within the media server industry. What’s more, the introduction of the new 2TB drives will result in only small price increases, despite the doubling of storage capacities across the XiVASafe range. See below for an up-todate list of retail prices for MS1-plus-XiVASafe media server systems. “We are extremely pleased to announce the introduction of 2TB drives within the Imerge product range,” said Cameron Wade, CEO of Imerge. “We are equally delighted to confirm that price increases will be minimal, despite the doubling of storage capacities. We are committed to the continual improvement of our products as technology progresses, whilst maintaining exemplary standards of performance, reliability and value for money, and this announcement is further proof of our determination in this regard.” Key Features: Imerge XiVASafe Storage Components • Ultimate hard disk storage solutions for the residential market – perfect partners for the Prices: Imerge MS1 and XiVASafe Media Server Systems • System 1 – MS1 and 2TB XiVASafe (sSATA; RAID 1): £6,182 *1TB (terabyte) equals 1,000GB (gigabytes)
