UK launch of world's first four colour technology television

Sharp Electronics UK announces the launch of the new Aquos LED LCD TV series, which for the first time introduces a fourth colour sub-pixel, yellow, to the traditional red, green, blue format. The revolutionary new four colour technology enables billions of colours to be displayed, creating more sparkling golds, emerald greens and Caribbean blues.

The addition of the yellow sub-pixel allows TVs in the new Aquos LED LCD range to display a colour palate which, until now, has been impossible to see on screen. Through this brand new technology, Sharp's new range displays more realistic pictures than conventional TVs, bringing images to life in higher quality than ever before.

Each model is HD-ready 1080p and incorporates Sharp's UltraBrilliant Edge-lit panel technology, which has been designed to deliver incredible contrast - improving the perception of depth and clarity in every image.

Every model in the range has built in Freeview HD, meaning you can watch all HD channels without the need for an additional set top box. In addition to this, the flagship model of the series, the LC-LE921E, will feature E-motion 200 technology, which allows fast moving images to retain clarity and definition.

The new Aquos LED LCD range offers a stunning new contemporary design that delivers a new standard for flat-screen television artistry. At only 39mm deep, the panel glass (on the LE921 and LE821 series) extends to meet the slim border for a subtle edge.

The Aquos range also has cutting-edge energy saving technology , which combined with Sharp's own LED backlight, reduces the energy needed to produce the on screen image, making energy consumption significantly lower than in conventional fluorescent backlit LCDs.

Paul Molyneux, managing director, Sharp Electronics UK, said: "Today, with the new Aqous LED LCD TV series, Sharp has evolved LCD TV technology from three to four primary color technology, broadening the visual experience and immersing viewers in a palate of colours that has never been possible until now."

Dr Jack Lewis, neuroscientist said; "A key mechanism of perceiving colour involves comparing levels of red versus green light and blue versus yellow light, which all happens in a special layer of neurons within the retina. The addition of the yellow sub-pixel (to the standard red, green and blue) in this product creates so many new colour tones that the new technology Sharp is using to create images is mimicking critical features of the brain's visual system which turn lightwaves striking the retina into beautiful, vividly-coloured, images in our minds."

In the UK, the LC-LE811E, LC-LE821E and LC-LE921E models are available in 40" and 46", while the LC-LE920 is available in 60".
