DF Solutions Introduces New Blu-ray Media Server (1/4/2010)

DF Solutions has announced that its popular Base© media server - available exclusively to residential custom installers from award-winning distributor, AWE Europe - is now fully enabled for Blu Ray disc storage, playback and multi-room distribution.

“HD video is continuing to grow in popularity and the new Blu Ray functionality will provide a major boost to dealers” says James Drummie, Internal Sales manager of AWE Europe. “The Base© Media Server from DF Solutions is the most affordable media server on the market with full Blu Ray compatibility. This, alongside other new features, including remote access for installer maintenance ensures the upgraded Base© media server still exactly what dealers ask for”.

The Blu-Ray capable Base© Media Server offers 1TB of internal storage but can be linked to additional LAN-based NAS (Network Attached Storage) devices on the home network for unlimited expansion as required. This approach is best practice but also ensures there are no tie-ins to overpriced storage options. Base and the Link clients can be used as a Blu Ray disc players directly, or if a user chooses to make an image of a Blu-Ray from their PC (using commercially available software), Base© will see the corresponding .iso file on the network and integrate this HD movie into the main library, ready for distribution around the home in full 1080P high definition.

Another new feature is the compatibility with the latest “Teamviewer” software, enabling installers to access the unit over the internet from a remote location for real-time, high-level technical support, updating and maintenance. Also new is “Party Mode” which sychronises all zones to provide audio play back at the same time and also new Parental controls. AWE provides full training on all areas at monthly DF Solutions training courses held at AWE’s HQ.

The Base© Media Server features a unique, advanced 3D-interface which homeowners can use for instant browsing and accessing of their entire movie and music collection, complete with artist information and press reviews, cover-art and suggestions for viewing and listening. This allows families to select movies, pictures and scenes from their entire collection quickly, easily and enjoyably. Metadata is automatically downloaded and updated from the internet or can be manually modified as required. Additional features include simple on screen YouTube browsing and playback, networked picture viewing including slideshows, a personalised screensaver, weather summary, RSS feeds, internet radio and Last.FM compatibility. More functionality will be added in the future to meet market demand. These latest upgrades are remotely downloaded and absolutely free.

The Base© unit can be used in a single room or easily integrated into a whole home custom installation using the Link Clients and is controllable from a wide-range control systems, including Philips Pronto – also available from AWE as well as iPhone, AMX and Crestron.
