Atlas Cables Introduces Mavros 75 Ohm Digital Interconnect Cable (12/4/2010)

Specialist cable manufacturer, Atlas Cables, has introduced what is probably the highest performance digital interconnect cable currently available; a cable researched, designed and developed in Scotland. The new Mavros 75 ohm cable follows on from the recent Atlas achievement of creating an outstanding reference analogue cable, the Mavros interconnect.

The team at Atlas has now worked to develop the best possible high-resolution cable for transmitting digital signals; a cable with extremely precise transmission and termination standards. The result is the new Mavros 75 ohm digital cable which incorporates the same Microporous PTFE dielectric insulation as the other Mavros cables. This new insulator behaves almost like the perfect insulator, free air, and so has the minimal effect upon the signal being transmitted along the cable. The hitherto highest performance insulator, solid PTFE, has dielectric constant of around 2.1 whilst the new Microporous PTFE foam improves this figure to around 1.5, providing for a 30% greater signal velocity and better signal integrity, particularly in the area of high frequency timing and stability.

The centre conductor is comprised of a monofilament conductor and 18 strands of Super Pure Copper wire insulated by a thin layer of Microporous PTFE. The co-axial double shielding layers are an Aluminium Mylar foil followed by oxygen free copper braiding after which the whole cable is protected by a PVC jacket damped with cotton yarn, giving an overall diameter of 8.5 mm.

With a termination impedance of almost exactly 75 ohms at 1 MHz and a low conductor-to-conductor capacitance of around 50 pF per meter the new Mavros digital interconnect perfectly matches consumer digital audio equipment to ensure error free transmission of fast digital data signals. The results can be heard as quite remarkable improvements in the timing and dynamic range of musical performances where the “smearing” of lesser cables simply disappears.

This exciting new cable is available now and in two formats. The 75 ohm BNC cable is terminated with high-quality Atlas BNC plugs and is priced at £180.00. The 75 ohm RCA cable is terminated with the exclusive Atlas direct silver plated OCC copper, non-compressing, double screened, self-cleaning RCA plugs and priced at £285.00. Both being the suggested retail prices (incl. VAT) for one metre lengths.
