CEDIA UK Builds on Outreach Success (21/6/2010)

CEDIA Home Technology Event 2010

Following a year of significant success, CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) is extending the reach of its outreach programme as it continues to build the profile and reputation of CEDIA and its members amongst design, architectural and specifier communities.

In 2010 CEDIA has developed and launched a brand new CPD (Continuing Professional Development) course, increased education events targeting specific outreach audiences and is working closely with trade bodies in relevant professions.

The new CPD course, entitled “Using Technology to Manage Energy in the Home”, was designed to meet growing interest from specifiers in energy efficiency issues and was showcased to an audience of architects at this year’s CEDIA Home Technology Event. CEDIA is encouraging its members to attend training which will allow them to present this course to architects nationwide in the months and years ahead.

The CEDIA Home Technology Event also demonstrated the fruits of CEDIA’s partnerships with other trade bodies including the BIID (British Institute of Interior Designers), CIBSE (the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers), RIBA (Royal Institute of British Architects) and the NICEIC (National Inspection Council for Electrical Installation Contracting). CEDIA worked with these organisations to develop and promote four dedicated conferences at this year’s event, geared towards building services, interior design, architectural and electrical contracting audiences. With each conference well-subscribed ahead of the show, these education initiatives are well on track for success, and CEDIA is now developing similar programmes for property development and security contractors.

CEDIA is also proposing to increase its partnerships with Trade Suppliers to promote Smart Home CPD events for architects. In the past twelve months, CEDIA has collaborated with AMX, Crestron and Lutron in reaching this important audience, and is urging other trade suppliers to get involved and find out how they can benefit from hosting CPD’s on their own premises or at show facility locations.

In addition, CEDIA has announced that it is investing in RIBA’s series of CPD Roadshows, and will be delivering its “Designing Integrated Future-Ready Homes” course in at least four of these Roadshow days around the UK in the next 12 months. More than 1400 architects and designers in total have now attended CEDIA’s CPD courses which can only be delivered by qualified CEDIA members.

“The CEDIA outreach events continue to generate huge interest in our industry from relevant audiences” says Gary Lewis, CEDIA’s Outreach Chair. “We are investing in the programme to make sure more members benefit from these initiatives in the future. So, please get involved – it’s important for the Association, our members’ businesses and the future success of the industry that we do so”.
