Hisense and CANAL+ among first to adopt Dolby Vision 2 technology

Dolby Vision 2 will be adopted by two global companies in its initial rollout, advancing the standard for HDR.

Hisense will be the first TV brand to bring the technology to its premium televisions, like RGB-MiniLED TVs, complemented by support from the French broadcaster CANAL+.

The Dolby Vision 2 image engine builds on the decade-long history of its predecessor with an all-new Content Intelligence feature, Authentic Motion and more.

Sonny Ming, general manager of Hisense TV Product Marketing, said: "This represents exactly the kind of innovation Hisense customers expect from premium television experiences.

"Dolby Vision 2, jointly with Hisense RGB-MiniLED Technology, can not only deliver dramatically astonishing pictures but also increases the potential of TVs with ultra-wide colour and ultra-high brightness.”

Content Intelligence deploys AI tools to ‘better bridge the creative suite to the viewer’s living room’: Light Sense finetunes picture quality through ambient light detection and new reference lighting data, while Precision Black clarifies visuals and special optimisation adjusts sport and gaming content for crisper performance.

Building on Content Intelligence, Dolby Vision 2 also introduces new tone mapping that takes advantage of improvement in TV brightness and colour. This allows for higher brightness, sharper contrast and deeply saturated colours while preserving the artist’s creative vision.

Going beyond HDR, the next-gen technology includes the world’s first creative driven motion control tool to make scenes feel more cinematic without shot-by-shot judder.

John Couling, senior vice president of entertainment at Dolby Laboratories, added: “We've reached an inflection point where TV technology has dramatically changed while artists continue to demand even more innovative tools.”

Dolby Vision 2 will be available in two product tiers from TV manufacturers, with the Max version adding premium features to the highest-performing TVs.

Hisense’s TV lineup will be powered by MediaTek Pentonic 800 with “MiraVision Pro” PQ Engine, the first silicon chip to integrate Dolby Vision 2. Timing and availability will be announced in due course.

Stéphane Baumier, chief technology officer of CANAL+, said: “Dolby has been a valued partner for many years, and we are proud to be the first media and entertainment group to announce the integration of this new experience for our audience.”
