Pioneer’s update will see HDR10+ compatibility added to its UDP line, the latest version of the HDR (High dynamic range) format.
The firmware update will be issued for Pioneer’s UDP-LX800 and UDP-LX500 universal disc players (UDP) in spring 2019.
Current HDR10 uses static metadata found on an Ultra HD Blu-ray disc to initially set brightness which remains unchanged for the duration of the disc’s playback.
HDR10+ uses tone-mapping metadata, allowing brightness to be adjusted frame by frame.
The release of the firmware update will be announced via Pioneer’s website.
