Samsung Galaxy Fold launch delay due to broken screens

Samsung has delayed the launch of its new Galaxy Fold phone due to a number of reviewers complaining that their screens had broken.

The recently announced device was sent to some early reviewers this month. However, after just a few days, the display had broken.

Samsung stated that it is now delaying the launch of the device to “fully evaluate the feedback and run further internal tests”.

The Galaxy Fold was due to be launched this week in Hong Kong and Shanghai but has now been postponed. Samsung has said that a new launch date for the device, priced at £1,800, will be announced in the next few weeks.

In response to the problems, Samsung released the following statement: “Initial findings from the inspection of reported issues on the display showed that they could be associated with impact on the top and bottom exposed areas of the hinge. There was also an instance where substances found inside the device affected display performance.

“We will take measures to strengthen the display protection. We will also enhance the guidance on care and use of the display including the protective layer so that our customers get the most out of their Galaxy Fold.”
