The company behind the 2015-crowdfunded success story of the AiFi speaker are at it again, but this time the Soundots have made its speaker system stackable.
For those who may not have the budget to invest in the likes of a Bang & Olufsen BeoSound Shape system, another, portable option is here that’s less colourful but arguably more fun.
Bluetooth 5.0-powered Ai-2 portable, rectangular speakers connect to each other using AI and optical communication according to Soundots. They support numerous possibilities, like creating a soundbar to pair with a living area TV, or building a full scalable speaker system, whether hosting a party or just relaxing at home.
To bring its vision for the Ai-2 to life, Sweden-based manufacturer Soundots is looking to crowdfunding platform Kickstarter for key funds. The company says its confident backers will be impressed by the “amount of bass, clarity and room for expressive dynamics” packed in one 7.2 x 2.55 x 2.51-in unit (weighing 750g), and hopes the budget-flexible approach to building a home audio or home cinema system will prove popular among everyday consumers and audiophiles alike.
Spec-wise, each AIi-2 speaker incorporates two 48 mm aluminium drivers billed as powering 15W, as well as offering two USB-C ports for wired connections to other devices. Units are connected through a magnetic locking system and each one can be manually controlled via a touch panel on the top of the speaker or through the Soundots iOS/Android app.
Ai-2 speakers will be available via the platform until the close of July and are expected to start shipping in November 2018, priced at just under $300 (roughly €245) to start your system off with two.
