CEDIA Expo 2026: Smarter systems, stronger networks, and better experiences

From the show floor to the sound rooms, this year’s CEDIA Expo mirrored an industry sharply defined by AI, networking and experiential design.

CEDIA Expo, one of the industry’s beloved annual events, returned to Denver this September in a strikingly intelligent display of residential technology. Occupying a vast exhibit hall, the specialist show offered an unparalleled look at the products and priorities shaping today’s integrated home.

With a focus on AI and scalable networking, this year’s instalment seemed to elevate smart working for integrators in a fast-paced business age. The Smart Stage programme repeatedly returned to AI's role in areas like system commissioning and predictive maintenance, echoing discussions on the show floor.

And manufacturers appeared to take a similar stance on reducing friction for both integrators and homeowners; whether through AI-assisted workflows or architectural speakers that blend into living spaces, the aspiration was about making sophisticated technology easier to deploy and live with.

While home cinema, distributed audio and control platforms remained core attractions at this year's Expo, the show also pointed to something else: cleaner, more human-centric system design, making AI more of a business tool than a talking point. Perhaps that also holds up a mirror to the industry itself in 2026. Whether you attended or followed developments from afar, it's worth considering how those themes compare with what you're seeing in projects today.

Strength in software

Software was impossible to ignore at the show, translating into tighter system mapping from control to AV. Crestron, for example, focused on simplifying system configuration and repetitive programming tasks with Configure Pro, which automatically maps every keypad, lighting scene, shade and audio zone.

AI also leapt to life as a practical deployment tool, with the ability to anticipate user intent and sculpt room atmosphere accordingly. Savant drew crowds with its vision for a more conversational smart home experience, highlighting its forthcoming AI capabilities and the role they could also play in setup, configuration and support workflows.

Stealth Acoustics’ new web-based layout tool also warrants a place in this discussion. Although minus the AI, it uses geometric algorithms to convert architectural blueprints, or even rough sketches, into placement recommendations for invisible speakers. And viewed alongside the brand's flagship 105-inch Foldable LED Display at the show, it reinforced the case that AV integrators should be seriously involved in the design process.

Networking as infrastructure

Networking emerged as the foundation for this software evolution, which is really no surprise given that multiroom setups demand wider interoperability. AVPro tackled this with cross-brand functionality, eliminating the need to programme translators between AVPro Edge video routing, AudioControl sonics, and RTI processors.

The prominence of networking reflected how connected homes depend on ever-increasing bandwidth. Network infrastructure is becoming the natural backbone as distributed video, immersive audio, surveillance, energy management and AI-enabled systems overlap. And the implications of this are twofold, making integration more about the technical infrastructure of the building itself while giving rise to flexible system design primed for the long term.

Blustream highlighted interoperability to this end with networked audio, supporting demos across mixed-vendor environments. Alongside live native configurations with third-party control and audio platforms (AVA, Sonance, Blaze Audio), its flagship IP300 Multicast AVoIP platform featured heavily on the booth.

This compact unit delivers 4K 18Gbps HDMI distribution over a standard 1Gb managed network with one-frame latency, pairing with the ACM1000 Advanced Control Module for simplified and future-ready integration in network architectures.

The brand also gave dealers a first look at PROSync, a next-generation AVoIP platform engineered for 4K at 120Hz and 8K video across a standard 1Gb network. It introduces routing for USB, Ethernet and audio over a common network platform.

AV's new focus

Meanwhile, the show's emphasis on technology was not solely about infrastructure. Many exhibitors focused on how systems are experienced by end users, with the most compelling demonstrations exploring the relationship between AV and perception.

This naturally expressed itself through technology that disappears into the built environment, such as Paradigm’s in-wall loudspeakers which assemble seamlessly across installation and finishing, but also through more fundamental approaches to R&D. Rather than chasing raw output figures, many manufacturers focused on how audio and video are registered by the senses.

ASCENDO demonstrated this thinking with its new Panoramic Surface On-Wall loudspeaker in Sound Room 10. By moving away from traditional point-source speaker design in favour of a proprietary full-range radiating surface, the company aims to create a more natural and consistent cinema experience across the listening area.

L-Acoustics also provided one of the clearest demonstrations of psychoacoustic principles. Its demo translated the company's concert audio into a home cinema environment, moving from movie clips to musical shows that blurred the line between reproduced and live performance. Through its format and duration, the demo encouraged audiences to engage with the content as though they were attending a live event.

We saw this focus on human-centric design on the video side, too. Italian projection specialist SIM2 used the Expo to showcase its UltraNero 4S range, including the flagship UltraNero 4S DUO, built around its "Seeing First" philosophy. Rather than focusing on specifications alone, the concept centres on how viewers actually perceive contrast, depth and colour.

To achieve this, the DUO uses two projection engines: one optimised for brightness and highlights, the other for shadow detail and image depth. The two are combined to create a more balanced and lifelike picture. Designed for large-format private cinemas, the system delivers up to 12,000 lumens while keeping operating noise below 33dB.

If we treat CEDIA Expo as a lens through which to view broader industry priorities, the technologies generating the most interest were those making systems easier to install and experience. From AI-assisted workflows to perceptual design, the show suggested that residential integration's value today comes from a more dynamic understanding of both people and place. As such, perhaps the biggest takeaway is that integrator competencies will need to evolve into something broader and more predictive to reflect an ever-connected age.
