CEDIA looks at Wi-Fi 6 in new whitepaper

CEDIA has released a new whitepaper about the new Wi-Fi 6 standard, titled ‘Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax): High Efficiency Wi-Fi’.

The Wi-Fi 6 standard has been designed to address some of the biggest issues in wireless networking and provide high efficiency Wi-Fi.

Fundamentally different to previous Wi-Fi standards, Wi-Fi 6 brings higher data rates, more robust connections, and simultaneous data reception or transmission between access points and multiple client devices.

“Now more than ever, homeowners expect their technology and their Wi-Fi to work seamlessly,” said Walte Zerbe, CEDIA’s senior director of technology and standards. “In addition to providing increased data rates, Wi-Fi 6 will be able to support more users. The new whitepaper provides CEDIA members with the guidance they need to prepare for this technological evolution on their projects and to design systems to the new standard.”

Complementing the content of the whitepaper, CEDIA has also hosted a webinar on the topic, titled ‘Wi-Fi 6: The Next Generation in Wi-Fi’. A free recording of the webinar is available on the CEDIA YouTube channel.

Zerbe added: “It’s hard to overstate the popularity and importance of this topic; it is going to have far reaching effects for all CEDIA members and their clients. Besides the improved performance and new features of Wi-Fi 6, we have a new sales opportunity with the new naming conventions. The shift from difficult-to-convey names such as 902.11N and 802.11AX to friendlier names such as Wi-Fi 5 and Wi-Fi 6, combined with the new on-device logo approach will finally stir up demand from customers for network upgrades.”

The whitepaper is available complementary to CEDIA members and costs $99 for non-members. It can be accessed here.
