The number of heating control systems has been rapidly increasing, with US stalwarts Nest crossing the pond to challenge British Gas’ less sophisticated Hive system. Meanwhile international giant Honeywell launched their evohome zoned system, promising up to 40% energy savings by controlling individual radiators [1].
But it seems that it’s actually a UK startup that’s leading the pack by combining the smart learning features and ease of use of Nest with the zoned control of evohome. The Heat Genius system is currently the only home heating control system to offer both.
A recent roundup of all eight heating control systems available in the UK concluded that zoned systems offer greater potential savings and that Heat Genius offered the best value for a typical zoned system:
"On paper, that puts Heat Genius in the lead, since it’s not only the cheapest multi-zone heating system, it’s also a very smart learning system if you add motion sensors." [2]
Alasdair Woodbridge, co-founder of Heat Genius, responded that “we definitely agree with the author that zoned systems can save more energy - after all, why heat rooms when you’re not using them? We’re delighted that our system was considered the best value option. It’s certainly a lot cheaper than putting a Nest in every room!â€
Heat Genius is available for purchase now via their web site, and currently includes free installation.
