Virgin TV launches UK’s first 4K entertainment channel

TV channel Virgin is to launch its own 4K channel on 17 September, 2018, joining BT and Sky on the frontline of delivering 4K content services in the UK.

Virgin may have been a few years late to the 4K party in the UK, although it did offer this year’s Champions League football and Wimbledon tennis in higher resolution this summer, but the channel is finally realising its necessary to compete in an increasingly competitive broadcast landscape.

The TV service provider will officially launch its 4K Ultra HD entertainment channel next Monday – available for Virgin TV Full House and VIP customers via its V6 set-top box. The channel will stick to entertainment for now, and offer up a mixture of dramas (including a UK debut for ‘The Art of More’), documentaries and concerts.

The entertainment focus makes sense given the stronghold on the sports market Sky and BT currently have, and Virgin TV customers can even add BT sports UHD to their viewing package for a more complete 4K viewing experience.
