Naim reveals Mu-so 2nd Generation wireless music system

Naim has unveiled the second generation to its award-winning Mu-so wireless music system, bringing together its 45 years of hi-fi expertise into a single-box solution

Developed by 25 engineers over three years, the Mu-so 2nd Generation offers hires audio for the home. With up to 32bit high-resolution streaming, the Mu-so 2nd Generation allows users to listen to their own digital music library, internet radio, as well as music streaming services such as TIDAL and Spotify using Naim music streaming products such as its Uniti range and dedicated network players, including the £20,000 flagship ND 555.

One key difference in the Mu-so 2nd Generation compared to the original is the new multicore Digital Signal Processor (DSP). This drives higher performance by providing 2000 MIPS (Million Instructions Per Second) whereas the original Mu-so’s single core only provided 150MIPS DSP.

The new improved and highly optimised speaker drivers were the result of a joint development project between Naim and Focal’s R&D department.

Another new feature to the 2nd Generation is the new limiter algorithm. Only activated at extreme volume levels, it keeps the speaker drivers’ movement under control to help retain the music’s clarity and increase its reliability.

The new enhanced feature set includes built-in Chromecast, AirPlay 2, Bluetooth, TIDAL, Spotify Connect, Roon-ready, UPnP, HDMI ARC, multiroom ready, digital/analogue inputs, USB, remote control, app control, loudness control, alarm clock, and much more.

The attractive design sees a new intuitive interface with 15 touch sensitive buttons and an illuminated volume dial with a proximity sensor to light up the display.

Although it looks similar to the original, the Mu-so 2nd Generation has upgraded app control and can be easily set up on its own or as part of a multiroom system by combining it with other Naim devices on the network, AirPlay 2 pairing or by pairing it with other Chromecast devices.
