URC integrates with RATGDO 'to tie garage door control into broader automation environment'

URC has announced a new integration to manage garage door access through its Total Control platform.

The automation company is bringing RatCloud’s RATGDO devices into its ecosystem, building on its Unified Modules framework to deliver whole-home automation on a single interface.

The integration, delivered as a two-way Unified Access Module, leverages RATGDO’s WiFi enabled control boards to make garage door control consistent with locks, lighting and security. The automation is compatible with Total Control’s range of interfaces, including remotes, in-wall touch screens, tabletop controllers and mobile apps.

Lars Granoe, vice president of product development at URC, said: “Unified Modules represent the future of system design, bringing simplicity to the user interface while maintaining professional-grade flexibility.

“By integrating RATGDO within Unified Access, we’re giving dealers the ability to tie garage door control into the broader automation environment, offering end-users a more secure and convenient experience.”

The URC and RATGDO module is designed as a core-only driver, meaning all system data and device communication are handled through the core. Garage door devices are automatically discovered on the network and added to Unified Access to reduce programming time.

Multiple devices can be managed in a single project, each uniquely identified by display name and MAC address. This makes it simple for users to differentiate between 'Main Garage', 'Workshop', or 'Guest Access' doors across the Unified Access interface.

The module also supports two-way commands and device events, allowing real-time monitoring of garage door states with advanced macro programming; for example, a 'Goodnight' scene can automatically close all garage doors, lock exterior doors and adjust lighting with a single touch.

Additionally, URC’s Total Control voice features mean users can open, close or check the status of garage doors using spoken commands.

Paul Weiland, inventor of RATGDO, added: “[It] was designed to bring advanced connectivity and reliability to garage door control.

“Working with URC ensures our customers can manage access alongside the rest of their smart home systems, all from a unified platform.”
