Sony’s ZH8 8K HDR Full Array LED TV available next month

Sony has announced the availability of its ZH8 8K HDR Full Array LED TV, which is expected to go on sale in Europe in early June.

The new ZH8 TV uses Sony’s Picture Processor X1 Ultimate, creating a clear and precise picture quality for a highly realistic viewing experience. Images filmed in 4K and 2K are upscaled close to 8K by 8K X-Reality PRO using a unique 8K database. The Object-based Super Resolution optimises the resolution of each subject to reproduce virtually real-world textures.

Featuring Sony’s premium Full Array Local Dimming and Boosting technology, the ZH8 8K TVs precisely balances light output across the screen to ensure enhanced contrast. With zones of LEDs lit independently, Full Array LED provides more realistic contrast by making light areas lighter and dark areas darker. Contrast is further enhanced by 8K X-tended Dynamic Range PRO, which adjusts brightness for higher peaks in glare and deeper blacks in shadow.

The new ZH8 8K HDR Full Array LED TV has Sony’s signature Acoustic Multi-Audio built in, as well as a vibrating frame tweeter, which is a speaker that enables sound to follow the action for an immersive experience. Independent amps are controlled separately to precisely manage sound positioning of this speaker in high tone areas to enhance sound pressure and stability for more realism.

For use in gaming, the ZH8 series will support 8K 60fps as well as 4K 120fps high frame rate and fast response time via HDMI inputs to deliver maximum performance.

The Netflix Calibrated Mode allows Netflix originals to be reproduced to the creator’s intent. The ZH8 is also an IMAX Enhanced product, ready to meet high-quality colour, contrast, clarity and sound, giving a fully immersive at-home entertainment experience taking full advantage of IMAX Enhance content.

Featuring Ambient Optimisation technology, the ZH8 8K HDR Full Array LED TVs will automatically adjust picture brightness to the ambient light in the room, boosting brightness in bright rooms and reducing it in darker rooms. The technology feature will also optimise sound quality, detecting objects in the room, such as curtains and furniture that can absorb of reflect sound, fine-tuning the acoustics so the sound is not compromised.

The TV line up features Android TV with the Google Assistant, Google Play Store and Chromecast built in, offering users easy access to content, services and devices via its extensive platform.

Users can cast and control videos from YouTube with Google Home or change the channel or volume with Amazon Alexa enabled devices. Apple AirPlay 2 users can stream movies, music, games, and photos to their TV from their iPhone, iPad or Mac.

Going on sale in Europe at the beginning of June, the ZH8 75-in will be available for £5,999 / €7,199 and the ZH8 85-in will be available for £8,999 / €10,799.
