ATC launches compact active loudspeaker for modestly sized rooms

ATC launched a two-way active stand-mount loudspeaker at AXPONA Audio Expo over the weekend.

The audio specialist introduces its most compact active speaker, the SCM20ASL, based on the 50th anniversary ‘Limited Edition’ design.

The new model unites compact size and wider bandwidth with the improved phase coherence, response speed and dynamics of ATC active operation.

Its sealed cabinet design controls bass in smaller spaces and when located close to walls.

The loudspeaker features ATC’s proprietary 6” ‘Super Linear’ Mid/Bass driver and 1” ‘S-Spec’ dual-suspension tweeter.

These are powered by on-board class A/B MOSFET amplifiers capable of delivering 200W and 50W continuous power to the bass and HF drivers respectively.

The Mid/Bass driver employs a large 3” voice coil and short-coil motor assembly with ATC’s ‘SL’ motor technology, which reduces distortion from the upper bass into the midrange.

ATC’s ‘S-Spec’ soft-dome tweeter features a dual-suspension and high energy 2.1 tesla motor to deliver an extended response beyond 20kHz.

The Linkwitz-Riley crossovers operate at line-level for maximum efficiency, while an all-pass filter optimises phase response through the crossover region for improved tonal balance and imaging.

Input to the loudspeaker is via balanced XLR located on the rear panel.

Users can tailor the input gain to suit their source and pre-amplifier combination for more consistent performance.

The low frequency shelf control allows users to adjust the bass response to suit their room.

The SCM20ASL cabinet incorporates bracing for stiffness and damping to supress resonance, available in a range of wood veneers, painted satin finishes and high gloss lacquers.

The speaker is supplied with a removeable grille, wrapped in black acoustically transparent cloth.
