AV industry unites to build children’s care unit

A joint venture between ISE, CEDIA and AVIXA as well as other contributors from the AV industry are coming together to support the construction of a new children’s transitional care unit in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with plans to outfit the centre with a high tech entertainment space.

The care unit, known as the Jeroen Pit House, is being built within the grounds of the Emma Children’s Hospital with the aim of easing the transition from hospital to home for chronically ill children and their families.

More than 30 AV brands have agreed to provide services and products for free to develop the unit’s media space, including a sensory room and home cinema.

Woelf and Avex have contributed design, product management and installation services, with other contributions from: ACT, Antratek, Apart, Arcam, Attero Tech, Audac, Audinate, Audipack, Avex, Barco, Belden, Biamp, Bose, Chief, Cisco, Crestron, GenericAV, Intronics, Kenwell, Kramer, Logitech, Middle Atlantic, Monitor Audio, Nedis, SnapOne, Philips, Procap, Projecta, SCP, Sennheiser, Sony, StarTech, TU and tvONE.

Mike Blackman, managing director, Integrated Systems Events, commented: “Thanks to the ongoing generosity from industry contributors, we have brought together the best in technology, design and installation expertise to create a hi-tech entertainment space within the transitional care unit. The project will provide, amongst other things, an area of escapism for chronically ill children and their families to spend time together and prepare for life at home,”

Work on the project has been underway for three years, with completion of the building expected in early spring 2022.

Jan Martens, integration specialist, Woelf, said: “The support from the AV industry has been heart-warming. The quality of the contributions means that we have had the scope to look beyond the original media area and plan for a wider, more sophisticated integration to meet the needs of The Jeroen Pit House for many years to come. It’s incredibly humbling to have the opportunity to give back in this way.”
