CEDIA (the Custom Electronic Design and Installation Association) has appointed Simon Buddle to succeed Matt Dodd as Education Director for CEDIA EMEA. Simon will head up the development of CEDIA’s expanding education programme within the region which is aimed at improving skills and growing expertise throughout the residential custom installation industry. He will help support the globalisation of the industry by assisting with the production and dissemination of relevant international content. His new role will also include developing new content and adapting existing materials to work on various platforms. Simon takes over from Matt Dodd who is moving on to focus on Clavia, a new business development consultancy service for the custom installation sector. “We are delighted to welcome Simon to CEDIA,” says Wendy Griffiths, CEDIA EMEA’s Executive Director. “From his work as Technical Director at SMC and as a volunteer with CEDIA for many years, he brings considerable education experience to the position. He will help build on the fantastic platform created by his predecessor in recent times. Simon is the perfect person to take CEDIA Education forwards in a positive direction for the benefit of all members.” Simon will provide a strategic overview of the CEDIA education programme, working closely with the CEDIA Board, the Association’s Education Committee and the CEDIA Education team in the US. “I've been proud to be a part CEDIA education from its earliest days, watching it grow over the years to provide professional knowledge and helping to raise industry standards” comments Simon. “Educating homeowners about smart home technology is the new frontier. With Apple, Google and others now offering solutions, the industry is perfectly placed to take another giant step forward. CEDIA education will be looking beyond its traditional remit and towards raising our profile to end users and specifiers alike. After 17 years of volunteer work for CEDIA, I'm immensely proud to be given the opportunity to work with them in a professional capacity.” As an active volunteer in CEDIA’s education work for many years, Simon has taught both at UK Expos, ISE and at events across the world. His knowledge, expertise and enthusiasm were also critical in the development of the recently launched CEDIA Wiring Guidelines. He has spent twenty seven years in the custom install business, starting as an Installation Engineer and moving to Installation Manager at the world-renowned hi-fi specialists, Linn Products, before joining SMC as a systems designer and programmer, where he has been Technical Director for the past twelve years. “As Education Director, and prior to that as Education Chair on the CEDIA Board, Matt Dodd has been a key figure in defining our education strategy and implementing key improvements in the last three years,” adds Wendy Griffiths. “We wish him well in his new venture at Clavia.” “I am very proud of the progress made with CEDIA Education under my leadership,” says Matt Dodd. “We have seen an increase in the stability and consistency of CEDIA training globally, and introduced a range of important new initiatives, including EST2 modularisation, ECS cards, the CEDIA Passport to Education, events for learners in South Africa, Italy, France and India and much more. With Simon Buddle, CEDIA Education is in good hands for the future.” www.cediaeducation.com
