Onkyo unveils THX-certified home cinema package

Onkyo has introduced a THX Integrated System-certified home cinema package.

The manufacturer’s 7.1-Channel HT-S9800THX A/V receiver/speaker package offers support for object-based soundtracks and pass-through of 4K HDR (including HDR10, Dolby Vision, HLG and BT.2020) via via six rear HDCP 2.2-compliant HDMI terminals.

It also incorporates wireless multi-room audio distribution and music streaming via platforms including Chromecast, DTS Play-Fi and AirPlay.

Only requiring a connection to a TV or projector and source for home cinema caliberation, the HT-S9800THX consists of 2-way acoustic-suspension speakers – incorporating white A-OMF drivers and a front-firing subwoofer – and a 165W/ch network receiver.

Users are able to play spatially-mixed Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks, while Dolby Surround and DTS Neural:X upmix legacy soundtracks on DVD and Blu-ray when using a pair of the four supplied surrounds in Front Top configuration.

The speakers can also be installed as rear surrounds in 7.1 layout, or connected to the receiver’s Powered Zone 2 outputs for stereo distribution of network, S/PDIF, and analogue music sources - while retaining an 5.1 configuration in the living room.

Selectable 5 GHz/2.4 GHz WiFi supports built-in Chromecast. Users are able to stream to the receiver from any supported music app.

Audio services built into the receiver, include Spotify TIDAL, Deezer and TuneIn, together with network-attached music on media server, can be cued up with Onkyo Controller app and played to Onkyo NCP-302 wireless speakers in other rooms over FireConnect, powered by Blackfire.

The receiver’s non-phase-shift amplifiers, the heart of the Dynamic Audio Amplification system, are fed via a digital signal processing system comprising of 384 kHz/32-bit (AK4458) DAC and VLSC filtering that works to erase pulse noise.

Onkyo’s HT-S9800THX A/V receiver/speaker package will be available in June 2017.
