During the Sound & Vision Show held in Bristol on 21-23 February, The Clarity Alliance ran the second of its annual “Best of Show” awards to reward the efforts put in to the show by the exhibiting companies and help raise the profile of the winners and show among the hi-fi buying public. Also announced was the first of its Honorary Fellowship awards, which went to John Dawson of Arcam. Judges from Clarity visited every room at the show in order to select those companies they felt should be recognised for their outstanding contribution. The winners were presented with their awards on the Friday evening, at a packed awards ceremony and press conference, enabling them to then proudly display them to the show visitors over the weekend. Chosen after very careful consideration and consultation by the judges were the following companies: "Best Sounding Hi-Fi Room' - Naim Audio "Best Home Cinema Room" - Arcam "Best Presented Room" - AudioQuest "Most Innovative Room" - Monitor Audio "Best Stand in Open Areas" - The Chord Company Fulfilling one of its stated founding objectives, Clarity also awarded the first of what will become an annual event, the bestowing of an “Honorary Fellowship of Clarity” to an individual who has made a significant contribution to the UK hi-fi industry. The founder of Arcam, John Dawson, was the first recipient of the award, which was made in recognition of the hugely important role he has played in the success of the UK hi-fi industry since the formation of A&R Cambridge in 1976. Alan Sircom, past chairman of The Clarity Alliance, presenting the awards to the winners, said, “It is very encouraging to see real efforts being put in by the exhibitors to make their presentations as good as possible. Recognising and rewarding the hard work that goes into staging a show like this is important and the board of The Clarity Alliance would like to offer its congratulations to all the worthy winners.” He added, “There are many people who have helped shape the UK hi-fi industry and cemented its place in the worldwide market over the years, but one name really stood out to be the obvious recipient of our first Honorary Fellowship. John Dawson has not only been responsible for the creation of Arcam and many of its legendary products, but has also worked tirelessly behind the scenes with the BFA, BADA and latterly Clarity, to help the UK industry steer a course toward prosperity and longevity in the face of heavy global competition. We offer our heartfelt congratulations to him on this worthy accolade.” Clarity would also like to thank Rob Follis and the show organisers for supporting the idea of a “Best of Show” awards, Naim Audio for the use of its room for the presentations, JVC for the AV equipment and Henley Designs for sponsoring the bar at the ceremony. www.clarityalliance.co.uk
