Farnell launches annual IoT survey for market insights

Distributor, Farnell has launched its third, annual IoT survey, giving engineers and designers in the IoT space the opportunity to share insights about the market while helping to shape the product range and technical resources offered by Farnell.

Open until 1 December 2020, this year’s survey questions have been enhanced for a truly deep dive into the IoT industry. Responses will provide greater insight into the technologies, challenges, and opportunities designers of IoT solutions face.

The aim of the survey is to show how the IoT industry is changing each year, with results revealing the full range of potential applications and market trends and how the use of AI in the design process is growing.

This year’s survey will be even more prevalent to understanding the impact Covid-19 has had on IoT developments. While industrial systems may be adversely affected by the pandemic, it is likely that medical diagnosis and automated test systems could very well experience rapid growth.

Last year, the survey showed the growing role of hardware in the design process for IoT solutions. Almost half of respondents said they used AI in their designs in 2019, and interoperability and certification standards continues to be an accelerator of IoT benefits in previous surveys.

Farnell’s research also suggests that the IoT market will continue to grow over the next five years with key application areas expected to include home automation and smart buildings, as well as industrial automation and control and smart factories.

The survey is open now until 1 December with results being announced in spring 2021. Participants can also enter a competition to win an iPad Pro 11-in, a £250 Amazon gift card, or a £50 Amazon gift card. You can access the survey and competition here
