77†and 65†LG ULTRA HD 4K OLED TVs to be available in the UK from October 2014
LG Electronics (LG) has announced the launch of the World’s First Curved ULTRA HD 4K OLED TV in the UK, with the arrival of its 77†and also 65†screen sizes from October 2014. Both models boast the very latest in screen innovation, combining ULTRA HIGH DEFINITION 4K and OLED technologies for the ultimate viewing experience, responding to the 75% of consumers who prioritise picture quality above any other TV feature (LG Electronics UK In-House Research, Jan 2014).
Picture Perfect
The 77†(77EC980V) and 65†(65EC970V) ULTRA HD 4K OLED TVs combine LG’s proprietary WRGB OLED technology and ULTRA HD 4K screen resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) for a whole new level of picture quality. Filling the viewer’s field of vision with gorgeous, high-contrast images, the stylish curved screens are supported by a beautiful ribbon stand. A standout product, the company’s mammoth 77†model is the recipient of the highly-prized Best of Innovations at the 2014 CES Innovations Awards and is the World’s largest screen of its kind.
The colour temperature of each pixel on the enormous 77†and 65†displays is automatically controlled by the LG Colour Refiner, resulting in superior consistency and balance. The TVs’ infinite contrast ratio is adeptly managed by LG’s High Dynamic Range (HDR) algorithm. The striking ULTRA HD 4K OLED TVs also boast the eye-popping visuals of ULTRA CINEMA 3D. Thanks to film-type patterned retarder (FPR) technology and ULTRA HD 4K resolution, the user can marvel at the most convincing 3D effects ever seen on a TV.
For more high resolution viewing options, the 77EC980V and 65EC970V are equipped with LG’s own True 4K Engine Pro, which can upscale SD, HD or Full HD content into breathtaking near-4K picture quality. The results are rendered even more seamless due to the error-correction capabilities of the enhanced super resolution algorithm to prevent blurred image from the upscaling process. The TV also incorporates Motion Estimation Motion Compensation (MEMC) to make the onscreen action appear smoother and clearer.
Consumers will appreciate that LG’s Curved ULTRA HD 4K OLED TVs are future-proof, able to decode broadcast signals in both H.264 and HEVC H.265 formats, at 30p or 60p. A convenient built-in decoder makes it possible to display ULTRA HD 4K content from external devices connected via the TV’s HDMI, USB or LAN ports.
webOS - Making TV Simple Again
Both the 77†(77EC980V) and 65†(65EC970V) also incorporate LG’s new Smart TV with webOS platform, enabling consumers to enjoy a refreshingly simple and intuitive user experience. As announced at CES in January, the simple and intuitive webOS platform offers a revolutionary new Smart TV experience, and will be available on over 70 per cent of LG’s 2014 TV range in the UK. The platform’s ease-of-use makes browsing and viewing, connecting with other external devices, and even the initial setup process, effortless.
Users can easily browse through services or content via the Launcher menu without having to navigate away from their current viewing choice. Meanwhile, the LG Store conveniently organises all content available on the webOS platform into category tabs. It also offers recommendations based on popularity, allowing users to easily discover exciting new entertainment options.
Guide retail prices are £19,999 for the 77†and £5,999 for the 65†LG Curved ULTRA HD 4K OLED TVs.
