When you’ve got 68.3 million subscribers why not mix things up a little? This is the thinking behind Netflix’s latest idea: choose-your-own-ending TV.
The streaming powerhouse has had its fair share of huge successes and failures since it was founded all the way back in 1997. Whilst its latest idea – interactive content where users choose the ending they want to see – seems like an exciting idea, the jury’s still out whether the novelty of the reality could soon wear off (kind of like some of its latest series of Orange is the New Black…)
According to Bloomberg, the TV show in question Netflix is currently considering making interactive is naturally the dystopian, watch-some-parts-behind-a-cushion Black Mirror, which aired its fourth series at the close of 2017.
Viewers will reportedly be able to select the ending to an episode they want to see, in what could be an interesting added dimension to how the show explores technology's effect on our lives.
If reading this brings about a sense of déjà vu, that’s because Netflix has been playing around with the idea for a while now. Hey, if it can put out multiple series of Hemlock Grove, surely it’ll make the leap?
Black Mirror season 5 will be released this December. Studios may have more to figure out when it comes to the production and pay-scale for this kind of content, however.
Reports suggests another deal could have been struck with another TV show to make it interactive too, with other options currently being explored behind the scenes.
