CEDIA enhances in-person education to provide ‘broader understanding’ of residential tech industry in 2025

CEDIA has revamped its in-person education programme to better support professionals across the industry.

The association’s five refreshed pathways offer a more intuitive approach to skill-building and career development, centring on areas like Lighting, Home Cinema and Residential Networking.

The result of professional feedback, the new structure offers the choice of a full pathway aligned with an area of interest or individual day courses.

Geoff Meads, a longstanding CEDIA volunteer, said: “We’ve seen the industry shift. As more professionals come from different technical backgrounds - IT, electrical, satellite - the lines between roles like installer and designer have blurred.

“Businesses need people with a broader understanding, not just one specialism.

“That’s why these new pathways are designed to provide a more rounded education.”

For businesses, this updated approach makes it easier to upskill team members in focused areas: a company specialising in lighting control, for example, can enrol technicians in the Smart Home Lighting pathway, while the modular structure offers greater control over career development for individuals.

Meads said the purpose of the programme is to develop a foundation of knowledge for professionals to grow over time at a reasonable pace.
